For challenge and encouragement in your Christian life, read the life stories of the Heroes of the Faith. The novelized biographies of this series are inspiring and easy-to-read, ideal for Christians of any age or background. In Watchman Nee, you’ll get to know the twentieth-century Chinese spiritual leader who spent almost a third of his life imprisoned by the Communists for his service to Jesus Christ. Appropriate for readers from junior high through adult, helpful for believers of any background, these biographies encourage greater Christian commitment through the example of heroes like Watchman Nee.

From the Back Cover

He lived the life he wrote about: the devoted, “normal” Christian life.

The titles of Watchman Nee’s books say much about this twentieth-century Chinese spiritual leader: Changed into His Likeness, Love Not the World, A Living Sacrifice, and Spiritual Man. Writer, teacher, and church founder, Nee spent his entire adult life focused on the truth of the gospel, and almost one-third of his life imprisoned for his beliefs.

Opposed by traditional denominations for his work creating indigenous churches in China, Nee also encountered false accusations from the Chinese government, extreme poverty, and the ravages of disease. Yet from the seed he planted grew larger churches, congregations that continued to thrive despite Communist persecution.

Top Highlights

“‘Brothers, if people trust us, there is no need to explain; if people do not trust us, there is no use in explaining.’” (source)

“If ye were of the world (ek tou kosmos), the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you’ (John 15:19). Here we have the same expression, ‘not of the world,’ but in addition we have another and more forceful expression, ‘I have chosen you out of the world.’ In this latter instance there is a double emphasis. As before there is an ek, ‘out of,’ but in addition to this, the verb ‘to choose,’ eklego, itself contains another ek. Jesus is saying that his disciples have been chosen out, ‘out of the world.’” (source)

“The truth is that the more you try to deal with inner dryness, depression, and flatness, the more you cannot overcome them. These things become an issue because we make them an issue. If you forget about them and let them go, they will disappear.’” (source)

“I don’t want to be more like Jesus; I want Jesus to be Himself living within me. Once I saw this truth, it was the beginning of a new life for me. From here on, your daily life can be summed up in one phrase, ‘Walk in [His] love.’ ’” (source)

“But trying to be unworldly is not only impossible, it’s unnecessary. Christ alone is our barrier to the world, and we need nothing more. And because of Christ, the world cannot reach me.” (source)
