Proven Formula for a Balanced, Effective Christian Life
Too often churches emphasize the Bible without welcoming the work
of the Holy Spirit, who inspired the Bible. Or they focus on
seeking manifestations of the Spirit while neglecting sound Bible
teaching. The result: a schism in their faith lives in which they
cut God--and his power--out of Christianity's equation. How can God
draw a lost world to his Son through people who are
powerless?
With over 170 years of diverse ministry experience among them,
respected veteran leaders R. T. Kendall, Charles Carrin, and Jack
Taylor restore balance to the Christian walk. They show that when
the Word is faithfully preached and the Holy Spirit warmly
welcomed, the Lord manifests his power, bringing salvation,
miracles, healings, heart understanding, and much more. Only when
Christians honor the Word and the Spirit can they lead empowered,
fruitful lives.
A deadly divide threatens our faith.
Too often we draw lines in the sand. We emphasize knowing the the
Bible without welcoming the work of the Holy Spirit. Or we focus on
the Spirit, seeking signs, wonders and manifestations while
neglecting sound biblical teaching.
This divide prevents our becoming the effective, empowered people
He wants us to be. When we prize the Word over the Spirit or the
Spirit over the Word, we miss an element central to our faith. Just
as reliably as with a mathematical equation, we need both the Word
and the Spirit to live as God intends and to access the power
available to us to draw a lost world to His Son.
It's time to erase the lines, bridge the gap, balance the
equation.
Only when the Word is honored and the Holy Spirit welcomed will the
Lord manifest His power, bringing salvation, understanding,
miracles, healings and much more. Only then can you live the truly
effective, fruitful life He has empowered you to live.

conferences around the world for more than ten years.
“Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones: ‘The Bible was not given to us to replace the supernatural or miraculous but to correct abuses.’” (source)
“He stressed the ‘immediate and direct witness of the Holy Spirit,’ that is, the Holy Spirit’s own witness being the way we know for sure we are saved. So many people have only a soteriological doctrine of the Holy Spirit, meaning the Holy Spirit ‘applies’ the preaching of the Gospel—which of course is absolutely right. But this view takes little account of the Holy Spirit’s immediate and direct witness. The absence of this immediate and direct witness, then, is what often paves the way for a ministry that is ‘perfectly orthodox, perfectly useless.’” (source)
“Somehow I saw the green as being an ‘insulation’ that hindered the Holy Spirit’s release of power from my inner person. This obstacle is ego, pride, vanity, conceit, self-centeredness, etc. Religious deception is the most formidable deception of all.” (source)
“what a person believes about the Holy Spirit is the single most powerful determinant of the effect He will have on us” (source)
“What is the basis for this power? First, it begins with the reading of the Scriptures.” (source)
Dr. R. T. Kendall, a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary and Oxford University (DPhil), is a protege of Dr. Martyn
Lloyd-Jones. He was the senior minister of the historic Westminster
Chapel in London for 25 years. The author of numerous bestselling
books, he conducts conferences all over the world and writes a
bimonthly column for Ministry Today. He and his wife,
Louise, live near Nashville, Tennessee.
Charles Carrin has been in ministry more than 50 years, most of
which time his beliefs and practices denied the supernatural works
and gifts of the Holy Spirit. A crisis time in his own life,
however, caused him to revise his theology. Today his ministry is
characterized by displays of the power of God in salvation as well
as deliverance and healing. He lives in Boynton Beach,
Florida.
Jack Taylor has a ministry that spans more than 54 years, during
which he has witnessed various moves of God in revival. His life
has been punctuated by encounters with the Holy Spirit that have
changed his life and ministry. He is a frequent speaker in areas
where revival has broken out, and he has a passion to see the
church become Kingdomcentered and empowered by the Spirit. He and
his wife, Friede, live near Melbourne, Florida.
