Transformed Leadership: The Role of Spiritual Discipline in Leadership Development

The need of the church in America today is holiness. When lives are transformed, wholeness and holiness result. Scripture provides the supportive structure for the transformation to take place and addressing this must include spiritual disciplines. Incorporating spiritual disciplines into the lives of individuals and church leaders will make each more effective and churches healthier. We have substituted talent for transformation and skill for sanctification in the church. Core spiritual disciplines need to be practiced to deepen the leader’s relationship with God and to grow into His likeness. Disciplines do not begin but deepen one’s intimacy with God. As core spiritual disciplines are added to the life of the leader in increasing measure, the effective leadership marks will be modeled through individuals in greater amounts. Church leaders cannot rely on talent and charisma they must nurture holiness. This book intentionally challenges the church, those training for Christian leadership, pulpit committees and pastors to incorporate core spiritual disciplines into their lives. Spiritual disciplines provide the supportive structure for the transformation of Romans 12:1-2 to take place.
