Overview

Already own the ESV Bible? Now, get the ESV Study Bible Notes and understand the Bible in a deeper way! The ESV Study Bible Notes offers the best and most recent evangelical Christian scholarship. It’s the most comprehensive study Bible ever published, the winner of 2009 Christian Book of the Year, and 2009 winner of best Bible in its category.

Created by an outstanding team of ninety-five evangelical Christian scholars and teachers, the ESV Study Bible (ESVSB) presents completely new study notes, maps, illustrations, charts, timelines, articles, and introductions. Altogether, the ESV Study Bible Notes combined with the ESV Bible text, comprises two million words of Bible text, insightful explanation, teaching, and reference material—equivalent to a 20-volume Bible resource library all contained in one volume.

The ESV Study Bible Notes includes 20,000 notes, written specifically for the ESV Study Bible. These notes focus especially on understanding the meaning of the text, giving answers to frequently raised questions, and providing theological, historical, and archaeological background—all for the purpose of helping readers to understand the Bible in a deeper way.

The ESV Study Bible Notes also provides a wealth of additional resources. The introductions to each book include essential information about the author, date, and place of writing; an extensive chart of key themes; a summary of how the book fits in with the rest of the biblical storyline; a description of literary features; an outline of the book; and a large full-color map showing the setting of the book. Another unique feature is the inclusion of over fifty helpful articles on topics such as the authority and truthfulness of the Bible, reading the Bible for application, the Bible in worship and prayer, the reliability of the biblical manuscripts, the relationship between archaeology and the Bible, an overview of biblical theology, and many more.

Other key resources include a system of over 80,000 cross references and an extensive concordance (which together facilitate easy location of important words and biblical themes). In addition, over 200 color charts, located throughout the Bible, provide clear, concise presentations of essential information.

Please note that this resource only contains the ESV Study Bible notes and does not contain the ESV Bible text.

John Piper, Pastor for Preaching and Vision, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, MN

Outstanding! The ESV Study Bible is a treasure—a beautiful volume, filled with a wealth of resources. It will be just as useful for the seminarian and long-time pastor as it will be accessible to the brand-new Christian.

—R. Albert Mohler Jr., President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

Wow! Concise, lucid, enlightening—the ESV Study Bible is an amazing resource. With its textual fidelity, doctrinal substance, and artistic beauty, the ESV Study Bible will be an immense help to all who hunger for God-breathed Scripture. I wholeheartedly recommend this exceptional resource.

—Randy Alcorn, bestselling author of Heaven and Money, Possessions, and Eternity

The ESV Study Bible is an invaluable and inexhaustible resource—for those who already know and treasure God’s Word, as well as for the new generation of Bible students who have yet to discover the wonder and wealth of Scripture. I especially love the way the notes and articles highlight the great redemptive story and ‘connect the dots’ between the various portions and themes of Scripture. Full of rich insight, scholarly yet accessible—I am deeply grateful for this magnificent work.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss, author, host of Revive Our Hearts Radio

I was privileged to act as General Editor of the English Standard Version, and now that I look back on what we did in producing that version, I find myself suspecting very strongly that this was the most important thing that I have ever done for the Kingdom, and that the product of our labors is perhaps the biggest milestone in Bible translation in certainly the last half century at least, and perhaps more. And now, as Theological Editor of the ESV Study Bible, I believe that the work we have done together on this project has set an altogether new standard in study Bibles.

J. I. Packer, Professor of Theology, Regent College, Vancouver, Canada

The ESV Study Bible is unparalleled in quality. Like the ESV text itself, the Study Bible notes, articles, and graphics set the standard for the 21st century.

R. Kent Hughes, Senior Pastor Emeritus, College Church, Wheaton, IL
